Common Symptoms can Include but are Not Limited to:
- Widespread pain and discomfort
- Chronic fatigue
- High pain levels in response to low level stimulus (pain with a gentle massage is a good example)
- Reduced physical capacity due to pain
- Withdrawing from social interaction (work and hobbies) due to pain levels
What Can We Do?
Hand On Physiotherapy:
This can include a number of treatment techniques which are aimed to reduce symptoms and restore mobility and function. They may include:
- Joint mobilisation
- Soft tissue massage
- Dry needling
- Manual stretching
- Passive range of movement exercises
Exercise Based Physiotherapy:
Exercise based physiotherapy is likely to provide more long term symptom relief and provide the opportunity tom improve function and return to activities that you have set out in your goals and targets. Examples of exercises might include:
- Low impact stretches
- Pilates
- Aerobic exercises such as swimming or walking
- Strength based exercises using weights
The most important aspect of exercise for chronic pain is that it is focused on your specific goals and targets. There will likely be some trial and error to ensure that we get the right dosage so that we have a meaningful effect without causing a flair up of symptoms.
