The Physio Rooms Woodvale

Tennis and Golfer’s Elbow

Tennis and Golfers elbow are two of the most common arm injuries that we see at The Physio Rooms Woodvale. This is known as a tendinopathy, and is often related to sport or work, where a repetitive action of a particular area is required. Interestingly, both of these injuries are correlated more with office-based jobs than tennis or golf!

Common Symptoms:

  • Dull aching pain over the inside or outside of the bone
  • Pain to touch over the bony parts of the elbow
  • Difficulty lifting everyday items such as a kettle
  • Difficulty with gripping
  • Aching or soreness into the forearm
  • Potential neck and shoulder stiffness associated with protecting the injured area

What Can We Do?

Hand On Physiotherapy:

This can include a number of treatment techniques which are aimed to reduce symptoms and restore mobility and function. They may include:

  • Soft tissue massage
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Dry needling
  • Taping
  • The use of a brace

Exercise Based Physiotherapy:

Once the cause of your elbow pain has been determined, your physiotherapist will be able to design a tailored exercise plan to return you to your normal work, sport or recreational activities. This might include:

  • Strengthening and mobility exercises to help restore movement and power to the muscles in the arm.
  • Strengthening exercises for associated muscle weakness in the upper back, neck and shoulder.
  • Nerve and muscle stretching that might be required with specific types of elbow pain.

All of our patients will have the option to carry out their rehabilitation exercises one to one with their physiotherapist or take part in one of our exercise classes in our on site gym.
