Did you know lower back pain is the most common type of pain or injury we see at The Physio Rooms Woodvale?

Lower back pain can present in a number of different ways, for many different reasons. Below are some of the most common symptoms we see with lower back pain, however, symptoms can also extend beyond these for some patients.

Common Symptoms:

  • Sharp, dull or catching lower back pain
  • One sided or across both sides
  • Referred pain into buttock and/or lower limb
  •  Nerve pain or changes in sensation in the lower limb
  • Reduced mobility (such as bending, sitting, walking)
  • Reduced strength
  • Difficulty with everyday activities (such as driving, getting out of bed or working)

What Can We Do?

Hands On Physiotherapy:

This includes a number of treatment techniques aimed to reduce symptoms, restore mobility and improve function.

They may include;

  • Soft tissue massage
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Dry needling
  • Taping
  • Stretching

Exercise Based Physiotherapy:

Movement is assessed in all physiotherapy sessions, and exercises are trialed and prescribed based on findings. Exercises can be progressed in a 1-1 setting where indicated, and patients also have the opportunity to participate in our group classes if deemed appropriate.

  • Stretches and mobility exercises to address movement limitations
  • Muscle activation exercises to address weak, inactive or inhibited muscles
  • Correction of postural or movement patterns contributing to or resulting from the back pain
  • Progressive loading and strengthening to assist reaching goals and returning to sport/work or every day activities
