Neck pain is one of the most common issues that people will seek physiotherapy treatment for. Pain can originate from the joints, ligaments and muscles and can often be very debilitating affecting common daily activities such as driving, sleeping and poor sleep.
Common Symptoms:
- Sharp catching pain in the neck
- Pain turning head to one side
- Dull aching across the neck and shoulders
- Nerve pain or changes in sensation in the arms
- Reduced movement in the neck
- Difficulty with everyday tasks such as driving
Common Types of Neck Pain:
- Wry neck (when you wake in the morning with a sore and stiff neck)
- Whiplash
- Chronic neck pain
- Neck sprains and strains
What Can We Do?
Treatment will vary from cases to case but you can expect to receive a thorough assessment and hands on treatment during your first appointment.
Hands On Physiotherapy may Include:
- Joint mobilisations
- Soft tissue massage
- Dry needling
- Taping
Exercise Based Physiotherapy:
Exercise plays a key role in the management of neck pain and working alongside out hands on treatment will give you the best outcome.
- Neck exercises might include stretches to address reduced movement and stiffness that accompanies neck pain. These exercises will likely be progressed to include some basic strengthening exercises as your symptoms improve.
- This will likely be progressed to more advanced strengthening exercises as your symptoms improve.
- All of our patients will have the option to continue their rehabilitation via one to one sessions with their physiotherapist or by attending one of our exercise classes in our on site gym.
